Common Questions
I work from home — do I need a license?
Yes. Most home-based businesses require a license to confirm zoning compliance and operational suitability.
I don’t have customers coming to my property — do I still need a license?
Yes. Licensing is based on operating a business, not just customer traffic.
I’m a contractor working temporarily in Borden — do I need a license?
Yes. Contractors must obtain either an annual or project-specific license before starting work.
Does licensing mean the Village endorses my business?
No. A business license confirms compliance with municipal requirements; it is not an endorsement or guarantee.
Still Not Sure?
If you’re unsure whether your activity requires a business license, contact the Village Office before starting operations. Staff are happy to help you determine what approvals may be required.
